When you can't open your file because of error H505, then follow these steps.

Solution 1: Check the Services on the Server

  • Open QuickBooks on the server.
  • Go to File and select Utilities.
  • Select Host Multi-User Access.
  • Do not select Stop Hosting Multi-User Access.
  • Check QuickBooksDBXX and then repeat for QBCFMonitorService.
  • Follow these steps to check QuickBooksDBXX:
  • Open your server computer.
  • Open the Windows Start Menu.
  • Type “Run” in the search bar.
  • Open it.
  • Enter “services.msc” in the Run window.
  • Press Enter.
  • Find and double-click QuickBooksDBXX in the list.
  • Set the Startup Type to Automatic.
  • Service status must be Running or Started. 
  • If not, select Start.
  • Go to the Recovery tab.
  • Set Restart the Service.
  • Select Apply.
  • Then, click OK.
  • Repeat these steps for QBCFMonitorService.
  • After completing the steps, open QuickBooks on each workstation.
  • Go to the File menu.
  • Select Switch to Multi-user Mode.
  • Lastly, check for the error.

Solution 2: Use QB Tools Hub

Step 1: Download Tools Hub

  • Close QuickBooks.
  • Download QB Tool Hub. 
  • Save the file.
  • Open the QuickBooksToolHub.exe file.
  • Follow the on-screen steps.
  • Install the tool.
  • Agree to the terms and conditions.
  • When done, double-click on its icon.
  • Open the Tool Hub. 

Step 2: Access the File Doctor 

  • Open the tool hub.
  • Select Company File Issues.
  • Select Run QuickBooks File Doctor. 
  • Wait for a few minutes. 
  • Once open, select your company file.
  • Select Browse. Locate the file. 
  • Select Check your file and Network.
  • Click on Continue.
  • Enter your admin password.
  • Click Next.
  • Now, check for the error.

Step 3: Run Database Server Manager

  • Open the QB Tool Hub.
  • Select Network Issues.
  • Select QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Now, select Start Scan. 
  • Use Browse to find your company file location if you can’t locate it. 
  • Select Start Scan.
  • When done, select Close
  • Open QuickBooks on the problematic computer.
  • Select File.
  • Then Switch to Multi-user Mode.
